I tried to hide my tears from Deidra and told her we were all good. The next thing I know Deidra is walking through the door with a hot chocolate and snacks.
My newborn was admitted back into the hospital the day after we left. I was losing my mind worried about her. I had been breastfeeding but because of jaundice, she was falling behind on feeding and in turn became dehydrated. I decided supplementing with formula was the best option to help flush out her system. After getting a bottle, I was having a hard time getting my little girl to latch on to me. She wanted the bottle. This was super hard for me. I felt like my baby didn’t want me.

Deidra came in to check on my daughter and we were both sobbing. I was sobbing because she wouldn’t latch and my daughter was frustrated; she wasn’t getting the bottle and easy food. I tried to hide my tears from Deidra and told her we were all good. The next thing I know Deidra is walking through the door with a hot chocolate and snacks. She told me I was her unofficial patient and she wanted to take care of me as well as my little girl. This meant everything in the world to me.

In addition to this, I was crying again after trying to feed and she comforted me and told me I wasn’t doing anything wrong. As a new momma, I felt like I was failing my little girl, and hearing everything she told me made me realize this happens and I wasn’t a terrible mother. She told me I was doing everything right and she’s the reason I was able to sleep that night. Her actions melted my heart.
