Denise was able to schedule an appointment and told the patient that she would be there to help her when the patient came in for the appointment.
A patient approached the front desk, letting the clerk know that she needed assistance. The patient has an extreme medical phobia and was barely able to even speak to the front desk clerk and was clearly in distress being in the office. She handed a note to the clerk and told her she had a medical phobia and another paper that said what her problem was that she needed to be seen for. The clerk left the front desk to talk to the clinical staff to find out who could see the patient, but when she returned to her desk, she found another note from the patient stating she was sorry, but that she needed to leave. The clerk called her supervisor (me) to find out how she can help the patient and what the situation was, since it was a bit of an unusual encounter. She was instructed to talk with Denise Halfmann, LVN to let her know what happened and ask if Denise would call the patient and try to get an appointment scheduled or help the patient somehow. Denise agreed and called the patient. She spent a bit of time on the phone with her to let her know her condition is likely not serious, as the patient voiced she is frightened of surgery. Denise explained her issue is very common and we have some simple fixes to try so the patient may not be too frightened to come in for an appointment. Denise was able to schedule an appointment and told the patient that she would be there to help her when the patient came in for the appointment. The clerk and Denise both showed compassion and no judgment toward this patient to get her the help she needed in a very difficult situation. I am proud to have them in our department!!!
