Denise Jost always seems to remember something special to connect with each one and is so compassionate. One of our patients was informed of the progression of her stage 4 SCCa of the cervix. The goal now is to improve her comfort and quality of life. The patient's husband mentioned how they loved the beach and he just wanted to see her one more time at the beach enjoying herself. Denise made a phone call to a family friend who has a vacation condo in Gulf Shores and they offered it let the patient use it for a week. She worked with another oncology nurse to ask the husband if he was interested in using the Condo, and also that her team of doctors approved.
Denise's friend also donated a nice gift care package, and Denise collected donations from some of the other oncology nurses towards gift cards for gas and food. Denise printed out pictures of the condo and resort and offered several suggestions on places to dine. They are presently on the trip and the patient will be looking into hospice when she returns. Denise really went out of her way to make a wish come true for one of our patients.
