Denise always makes me the last patient of the day so she can spend extra time with me.
Denise Lee saved my life last night. When she came by, she noticed that my legs were more swollen than they had been in the past and my oxygen saturation level wouldn’t go above 84%. My right leg was weeping and had split due to the enormous fluid accumulation. She also noticed that I had gained 18 pounds in less than a week. She immediately called 911. Prior to their arrival, she helped my elderly father move furniture out of the way so the stretcher could get into our home. When 911 arrived and assessed me they were initially not going to transport me to the hospital. This nurse put her foot down and insisted that I needed to go. She held my hand and stayed with me the entire time. She knows I have severe anxiety as well as tics and I needed her support. Once I was loaded into the rescue unit, I asked for my daughter to ride along, and they refused. This created more anxiety for both myself as well as my daughter. Denise started making me stress balls out of gloves to calm me down. She then told my daughter to get in her vehicle, and she would transport her to the hospital so she could be with me. She dropped my daughter off at the hospital entrance and didn’t leave until she knew she got inside. All of this was done after hours and far and beyond what her job requires. Denise always makes me the last patient of the day so she can spend extra time with me and has made a promise when I no longer need Home Health and can get back on my feet, she will become my friend and show me what this town looks like. During some earlier visits, she was trying to teach my daughter how to perform my wound care. She knew this was a difficult task for my daughter and one that created anxiety. Denise sat on the floor with my daughter and talked her through every step until she was comfortable.
