Derek is a great resource for the unit. He is works as charge nurse and consistently collaborate with other departments to have the patient throughput timely and effectively. He has demonstrated to be solution oriented and no matter how hard or difficult the situation may be he works his way though it to ensure the situation gets resolve and most importantly is done safely.

He is the equipment guru for the unit. He knows every single equipment how it work and what are the process to follow in case of any issue with it. The staff always said "if Derek can't make it work it is broken. He teaches all staff about use and functionality of any new equipment we get.

He is very helpful to get patients up from the ED and trauma center when they are busy, they call and he is there. He helps whenever the rapid response gets too busy in a case and need back up help. Derek is kind with all his patients and family members trying to go above and beyond to meet their needs. He is a great charge nurse. He manages the unit and his peers trust him and know that when he is in charge the work goes smoothly. He is an excellent resource with all policies and knows all resources and how to contact them.
