Our story began on Monday when my son started have severe stomach pains, resulting in an emergency appendectomy. We encountered excellent care throughout our journey through the hospital, including the emergency department, CT, Day Surgery, Recovery, and the 3W Nurses.
Our son was admitted after surgery and Devi was our son's nurse that night. She showed exceptional nursing care with great professionalism, incorporating a meaningful presence of personal caring. I realize it could have been difficult for our 18 year old son to be cared for by a nurse that wasn't much older than he was, but Devi treated him in a way that put him at ease. She had a real confidence about everything she did that helped him to relax. Our son asked me to stay the night, proving that even at 18 years old, our son's still need us, so I stayed. The staff was very helpful as I got settled in for the night, but of course I would not get any more sleep than my son got. Devi was on top of the details all night as he was post-surgery. She was prompt with her hourly rounding, asking his pain level, providing appropriate pain medications, and encouraging him to empty his bladder. Yes, emptying the bladder was a problem because he just couldn't. Devi addressed the delicate issue with our son, that he might need to be straight-cathed if he could not go himself, then she provided lots of encouragement, running water, and a few other ways to help him to no avail. So with the help of another nurse, Devi broke the news to our son who was extremely nervous. Devi, however was very professional and proceeded with the inevitable and my son got through the procedure because Devi was able to divert his attention with other topics of conversation. The rest of the night went smoothly for our son as Devi completed her shift with the same beautiful smile, positive attitude, and contagious energy and when she started her shift.
We are grateful that our son received such excellent nursing care, tech care, and supportive staff care throughout this hospital stay.
