Dianne Ferguson is a Nurse that truly gives from the heart and takes the extra time needed for all of her patients. She has been an Oncology Nurse for over 30 years here. I was taught by her how to give comfort end of life care, how to touch the person in pain or emotional need. She calls many of her patients after they leave the hospital to check on them and offer assistance. She does not like attention, but quietly tends to everyone’s needs. She is a great team player, leader and giver. I could think of no one more compassionate or more humble. She exemplifies nursing and touches everyone’s life. She is very deserving of this special recognition.
It is an honor and privilege to nominate Dianne Ferguson for The DAISY Award. I was a patient most recently at LCMH. I received excellent, quality and safe care. There were so many compassionate, respectful care givers. Dianne exemplified our core values but it was the human touch and time she spent anticipating my needs. She explained everything in such a soothing way. She made my family feel welcome and even anticipated their needs. Dianne called me from her home on the day that I was discharged. She is an outstanding role model in our nursing community.
We went to nursing school together and often car pooled. She is as lovely and compassionate today as she was then. We lost track of each other...I thought a nurse on 3NW looked familiar when my dad was there for many weeks...but didn't connect. Then early one day shift on a Saturday morning, I called to check in on him and hoped that his nurse would understand my concerns that needed to be addressed from the night before. I literally was tearful with thanks when I told her who I was calling about, realized it was her and learned that when she went in to assess my dad, she knew I must be his daughter. Needless to say, he had an angel taking care of him that weekend.
