She was very engaged and thorough in understanding our son’s diagnosis and presentation. Her bedside manner showed competence, confidence, and compassion.
Our son has intractable epileptic syndrome. We recently spent about 5 nights at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. Our son had prolonged seizure activity on multiple occasions. He became unresponsive twice. We also had issues obtaining a new AED for him. Overall, we had a positive experience with all on the treatment team and are so thankful for their care. Our nurse, Dina, really stood out to us though.
Dina was his RN for three days in a row. She was present for most of the seizure activity and for both incidents where he became unresponsive. She was very engaged and thorough in understanding our son’s diagnosis and presentation. Her bedside manner showed competence, confidence, and compassion. She laughed with us and thoughtfully addressed concerns of sleep-deprived and anxious parents.
When our son was seizing, she stayed with us and coordinated care. When he became unresponsive the first time, she called for the pediatric response team. She did everything right. We are so thankful (and thankful to the whole team of responders!). The second time, she pulled in the doc, and they worked together to address the situation.
We have been inpatient several times in different hospitals, and her clinical judgement has seemed spot on for each situation. There was also an issue with obtaining medication. The pharmacy and doc worked hard to resolve the situation. We were able to find some outside support from a friend at Madigan. Dina listened again and again and sent message after message of updates to help us coordinate the medication. It was a lot coming from worried parents! She took it in stride and was genuinely okay with our interruptions.
Dina is a lovely person and a wonderful nurse. We would like her to be recognized for the exceptional care she provided our whole family during our son’s admission.
