During the night shift on TCU the charge nurse became ill and had to go home leaving Dixie to staff the entire floor alone. When the 7-3 shift came on duty Dixie had the situation under control. She gave report on 15 patients in a knowledgeable manner, she gave three different nurses report and all of them complimented Dixie on the condition of their patients, nothing had been left undone. Dixie had a smile on her face and was on the unit until 7:40 that morning. She is more than a team player.
From Becky Fisher, Nurse Manager: The nurse that left in the middle of the shift was the charge RN. She had to go to the ER. This is an enormous load for any nurse and Dixie is an LPN! She dealt with the emergency, cared for the patients, and was very professional. The NAO Supervisor came and helped but Dixie picked up the burden of care for all the patients without complaint. She kept a positive attitude and worked with the PCAs to get the work done. She did not call me and say she didn’t have enough help but she could have - - and rightly so.
The patients were appropriately cared for and I feel she went above and beyond. Apparently the nursing staff did as well because they submitted her nomination.
