Donna is a true asset to Teays Cancer Center, the hospital, and her patients.
During my first visit, Donna introduced me to her partners, the environment, and the procedure. I felt safer than I had thought possible, especially considering I was receiving chemotherapy again. She was aware of this and continually checked on me throughout the visit. On my second visit, after receiving chemotherapy with oxaliplatin and waiting for reactions, I was discharged to go home a few miles away with my husband. However, during the drive home, I experienced a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction; my throat, face, and lips began to swell. Unable to breathe, coughing, and sweating, both my husband and I were terrified. Fortunately, we weren't too far from the TV Chemo Center.

Despite COVID restrictions, we were both rushed upstairs. My exceptionally experienced nurse arrived immediately, started me on oxygen, and called for other staff members to assist. Meanwhile, the new doctor arrived but was a little slow to react. My nurse, however, had already prepared medications to combat the reaction and was waiting for the doctor's orders. She informed him of what she had, and he approved it; she administered it right away. Within five minutes or less, I began to feel better. Throughout this time, she and the rest of the staff reassured both my husband and me. It was great teamwork for sure!

How can one quantify this RN's competency, compassion, and caring? I later learned she has over 38 years of experience, which clearly shows and has not diminished her capacity to support her patients. Donna is a true asset to Teays Cancer Center, the hospital, and her patients. I could write more about how she consistently monitors not just my care but also that of others, how she recognized that one of my ports had been damaged by another facility, how she delicately manages what remains, and how she subtly teaches others while providing her care. Donna is truly a dedicated hero.
