I have witnessed Donna's excellent nursing skills and also her excellent compassionate attitude. She was very informative about all the procedures and medications she was administering. I was scheduled to have an incision and drainage in my room for an abscess on my chest. I was very scared, but she spent time with me and helped lighten my fears by saying 'I will be here for you.'
During the procedure, she gave me pain medication, and also kindly asked the surgeon to give me local anesthesia. She also stayed and comforted me by holding my hands and coaching me from the beginning to the end of the procedure. I was relaxed the entire time, and it was all because I was treated and supported by my nurse the way a family member would. If I had concerns, or I was being difficult, Donna would always listen and talk to me—as a nurse and as a family member—at an eye-to-eye level.
She also found time to assist me in small ways like changing my beddings, walking me to the bathroom, bringing in my meals on time, and so on. I always looked forward to having her as my nurse every day!
In short, she really made my stay more bearable and enjoyable. She's outstanding inside and out and always has kind words. Even when she was not assigned to me, she would stop by to check on me, and my treatment progress.
I cannot think of another person who is more deserving of the DAISY Award than her; a nurse who always starts the day with a warm smile and ends it with a warm hug! She is truly an exceptional, amazing nurse. I am forever honored to have gotten the opportunity to learn from her and receive care from her.
