Because of Donna's quick intervention, D actually became one of the rare patients to survive CPR intervention.
Donna had been paged by another RN on duty at Oak Crossing because she felt "something wasn't quite right." After Donna got a good look at D, she said, "I knew we were in trouble. I tried to listen to her heart, but her pulse was very thready, and she wasn't breathing well. She was in and out of consciousness for a while."
And then, Donna noticed that her patient wasn't breathing, and she couldn't hear a heartbeat at all. So she initiated CPR and kept D's heart beating until the EMS crew arrived. Because of Donna's quick intervention, D actually became one of the rare patients to survive CPR intervention.
According to D and her daughter, no "thank you" would ever fully suffice. D doesn't really recall the events that led up to her heart stopping, or for quite a while afterward, yet D said, "If this happened when I was alone, the outcome would have been very different."
Donna feels she was just doing her job. The daughter shared with her, "You did it right. You were in the right place, at the right time."
