First nomination: I was admitted for same day bladder surgery. The day progressed normally until I was in recovery. My system wouldn’t remove the fluids so my departure time of approximately 1:00 had come & gone.
The first two nurses had done a very good job of helping me but my body was not cooperating. Eventually a catheter had to be put in by Dorothy along with an enormous amount of consoling. At about 8:00 pm we decided to make the catheter portable so that I could go home. That did not work out as I became nauseous and started to vomit. Dorothy sat with me and consoled me through this whole ordeal and was extremely patient with me. She made calls to the doctor to discuss the situation and a decision was made that I would be admitted. She went through all of the work to make the arrangements and finally had the task of getting me up on the 5th floor.
Dorothy also took the time to explain the procedure of leaving and returning to the hospital to my wife who had to go to our house to pick up the items that I would need for my hospital stay. Believe me, my wife and I both feel that Dorothy went way beyond the normal call of duty to make our stay as pleasant as could be expected and believe me, she certainly deserves the DAISY Award.
I do not know how long Dorothy’s shift was supposed to last, but she stayed until after 9:00 pm to finish getting me admitted and stable. Thank you Holy Family Memorial for having people on your staff who are so caring and considerate to their patients. Thank you Dorothy, you were a real blessing.
Second nomination -
Dorothy was with my uncle prior to surgery. She was very compassionate and patient with my uncle as well as explained everything to me and then went out of her way to check on us the following morning. She’s #1 in my book!!
