Dulce administered medications on time, carried out physician's orders with competence, and most importantly provided care that was compassionate and safe.
Dulce Amor is one of the expert nurses in the ICU. She is compassionate, hardworking, responsible, and trustworthy. She cares for her patients with compassion and treats them as her own family. Dulce was one of the first ICU nurses who received our first COVID-19 patients. The unit became very busy during the patient's admission, however, Dulce stayed calm and composed. She made sure that the patient's needs were addressed in a safe manner. Because the condition of the patient progressed, the team decided to intubate her. A chest tube was also inserted, and other contraptions were in place to manage her condition. The patient's prognosis was great and she was weaned from the ventilator after days of battling with the disease. Whenever she saw Dulce while she was on duty, she would wave at her and smile. Her face beamed with happiness. Dulce was among the nurses who cared for this patient. She possesses a caring attitude that you will sense the moment she talks to you.
She ensured that nursing care, even the basic procedures such as turning schedules, were followed. She administered medications on time, carried out physician's orders with competence, and most importantly provided care that was compassionate and safe. The husband of the patient expressed his gratitude to all the ICU nurses and most especially to Dulce. As a team player, she is one of the nurses who gave an idea on how to enhance patient experience and improve communication between interdisciplinary team members in the COVID-ICU.
Because of precautions and restrictions brought by the pandemic, there was a challenge on how to facilitate the communication between patients and their loved ones. Also, doctor referrals and interdisciplinary communication pose a huge test for the team. She was one of the nurses who suggested brilliant ideas to address the challenge.
There are a lot of times that I was with her during the busiest days in the unit. During these times, I did observe her showing a positive and professional attitude. She is organized and calm. She understands that patient safety is our priority and she works hard to ensure the comfort of her patients. She does not like to go for the 'easy' way. She prefers to perform her task in the safest manner even if it means that she will take time to finish her task. Surprisingly, she manages her time well. She can work with grace under pressure. I believe she is an asset to the unit and a gift to the lives of our patients.
