He had been searching for his car in the parking garage, so she invited him into her car and continued to drive around with him for 30-45 minutes trying to locate his car.
Eden has been my coworker for many years now: I have witnessed her being exceptional in all ways: bedside clinical care, bedside emotional support, supporting team members in emergencies, leading the unit as charge nurse, and leading a unit committee. Today was a very busy today, full of many complications, and Eden was in charge, and yet- I didn't feel any of the stress. She absorbed all the stress, calmly came up with the plan (constantly having to pivot as new issues presented), and just let each bedside nurse concentrate on their patient care. She directed patient assignments out of the OR, handled lunch breaks, lent a nurse to our sister unit to help them relieve their lunch breaks, took patients of her own, and she still managed to assist others in their patient care as well.
Eden has been my coworker for many years now: Not only is she an exceptional bedside nurse giving the best patient care, but she also is an exceptional charge nurse: the type of charge nurse that absorbs all the stresses happening on the unit, calmly comes up with a plan and dictates what all the nurses in staffing should do. But she does it in a rare way that allows each of the bedside nurses working under her to concentrate on our patient care and not even notice all the issues and craziness happening on the unit. Eden also is certified and effectively leads an important committee on our unit (Safety & Quality). Eden stays late when the census requires it for patient safety reasons, and recently I heard of a story where she stayed late to assist a patient's family member sheerly for compassion... After Eden had clocked out for the day, she saw an elderly man looking exhausted in the parking garage and started talking to him. He said his wife was in the ICU, and he had been searching for his car in the parking garage, so she invited him into her car and continued to drive around with him for 30-45 minutes trying to locate his car. I cannot think of a nurse more deserving of the DAISY Award than EdenĀ
