Eleanor goes above and beyond for patients and staff on a daily basis. Recently, a patient came into the neurosurgery clinic at the end of the day with debilitating pain and an inability to walk, use the bathroom independently, or continue to take care of himself at home. The patient's neurosurgeon made the decision to directly admit the patient for pain control and surgical intervention. However, there were no beds available. She contacted the House Supervisor when told that there were no beds and worked together to come up with a plan to keep the patient from having to go to the emergency department to wait for a bed. Even though the clinic had closed AND it was her birthday, Eleanor volunteered to stay with the patient for an extra 2.5 hours, helping him use the bathroom, taking him to the cafeteria to get food, and ensuring that he got to patient registration prior to getting his bed on telemetry.
