Elizabeth Galka, RN was nominated for her compassionate care of a COVID-19 patient who passed away without having family at the bedside. As this was early in our understanding of COVID-19, there was much anxiety about staff safety in caring for these patients. As Elizabeth's nomination so beautifully summarizes the event, "Elizabeth chose compassion over fear." The nomination gave this overview of the care Elizabeth provided, "She was in head to toe isolation gear and was sweating for hours" as she held the patient's hand while she peacefully passed. What an awesome example of our Franciscan mission and values! Thank you, Elizabeth for being a Franciscan Nurse.
