Elizabeth reported off care of the patient and quietly used her lunch to go home to get some of her own similarly-aged child's clothes.
While working as the dayshift clinical nurse coordinator at the Derby ED, Elizabeth was helping out the unit by checking in a patient who was there for abdominal pain. As she was starting the patient's IV and making small talk the patient broke down and confided to Elizabeth that she'd recently suffered the loss of her infant child and that in addition to the emotional toll, the financial strain of the child's funeral had placed a burden on her family that made it difficult to provide clothing for her other children. On her own initiative, upon hearing this, Elizabeth reported off care of the patient and quietly used her lunch to go home to get some of her own similarly-aged child's clothes, bringing them back to the ED and giving them to the patient for her children's use, all without fanfare.
