Throughout the process, it was evident who was in control. The many staff members knew their role and Liz oversaw her trained crew in action.
It is obvious that this hospital unit runs like clockwork due to the proficiency of Liz, their leader. She exudes experience and confident ability. Over a four-day span, my husband and I experienced a traumatic medical crisis during which my husband experienced a medical emergency. First 911 and then the ER, of course. Once he was admitted to 4N, he continued to have bleeding. At one point he lost consciousness. Liz coordinated a team response. Once stabilized, he was transferred to the ICU. Throughout the process, it was evident who was in control. The many staff members knew their role and Liz oversaw her trained crew in action. Set up for a diagnostic procedure, he returned for follow-up care back on her ward and I was pleased that her team reflected her calm, confident atmosphere of CARE. She relayed to me her faith in them, and they appeared comfortable revolving around her. Liz is patient, staff and family-focused, simultaneously easing our stress level.

Our second day was uncomfortable for me and a recovery stage for my husband who also has dementia. By the third day, we were moving forward with optimism and renewed hope. Liz's presence added to our peace of mind. This encouraged me to spend my free time during visiting hours at my husband's bedside as he slept and recovered to write up DAISY Award recognition for personnel, as a way to say THANKS for their service to us!

Exceptional assistance was provided to me by Liz when she found out we had a crucial appointment scheduled for Monday with my husband's neurologist for dementia testing feedback and related timely care elements. She took valuable steps to assist us in resolving the urgent dilemma. She assured me that she was also working on Monday and would pursue the matter on that potential discharge day to ensure matters were handled appropriately. What a nursing GEM Banner has in such a valuable LEADER such as Liz!!! Thanks to Liz, and all of your crew!
