Ellen was approached by a colleague who was concerned for a patient's family member who was seen stumbling by the elevator. While seating him in a chair by the nurses' station, Ellen realized that the elderly gentleman had had an accident on the way to visit his wife of 71 years. Without making a scene, Ellen quickly escorted the husband into his wife's room (she was downstairs having a test). Ellen helped the gentlemen shower, get cleaned up and change into green scrubs. She then helped him phone his daughter. The husband and his family were so thankful and appreciative of how professional and courteous Ellen had been. Ellen went above and beyond to help a patient's family member who was not in her assignment. She did not hesitate to assist him, working quickly and professionally to protect the man's dignity while helping him get cleaned up before his wife got back from her test. Ellen truly places the patient and the family at the center of care.
