Ellen Holmes was proudly nominated by a patient that she has cared for over a number of years and numerous surgeries. He writes

"I would like to nominate Ellen Holmes from the Orthopedics Department as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. Much of Ellen's work at Togus is in the Operating Room and her patients may not see much of her work because they are under anesthesia. In the past 15 years I have received four total joint replacements. As I was waking from one surgery I saw Ellen's smiling face as she inserted the last 2 staples closing my incision. The first words I heard were 'hello Elmer, we are finishing up . Everything went well and you will be going to recovery soon'. Her warm friendly confidence was apparent with each interaction and each of the procedures I have undergone. During one pre-op everything was set except the surgeon failed to arrive. Ellen took over as the team leader and went about finding another surgeon, and explaining the procedures and completing all of the required paperwork and consents for the new provider. Ellen told me all about the providers background and experience and encouraged me to go ahead with the procedure. Because of Ellen's confidence and thorough explanation I was reassured and comfortable with changes in my plan of care and everything went really well. Anytime I have seen Ellen in the corridor she asks how things are going. Despite her obviously busy schedule she takes a moment to show genuine interest in me as a person and as a patient. Going the extra mile and showing special interest in her patients is part of Ellen's makeup and she deserves special recognition."

Ellen Holmes is a shining example of patient centered care and giving completely of one's self for the betterment of patients and fellow employees.
