A very anxious patient is smiling and is very proud of herself because of Ellis. She has a trach and is very anxious to suction herself- this is the only thing she needs to be able to do to go home. Ellis, together with a junior nurse, E, worked together and took their time to motivate the patient, taught her patiently, and helped her accomplish this goal towards discharge to home. The patient wanted to thank Ellis and E. She stated how Ellis really made her feel like she can do the impossible, and was very knowledgeable. The patient was almost tearful as she was able to conquer this fear. She has been very nervous the past few days. Ellis always does these tasks with love, and volunteers to come in for extra shifts when he finds out the team is struggling. As a day shift nurse, he volunteered to work the night shift for a few months to be able to boost the night staffing. He is such a role model to his colleagues. He truly makes a huge difference for people around him.
