I live in Texas and received a call last month that my brother had a neurological event and was at Mercy. I was struggling to get much information from my sister-in-law or my other brother, so I called the hospital and asked to speak to his nurse. I talked to Emily - she was wonderful! She called me back from my sister-in-law's phone in my brother's room and put me on speaker phone. She went over how we got here and what's going on now with my brother and answered any questions we all had. The next day I was driving from Texas to Iowa and again called Emiliy to see how things were going. She was so very kind and compassionate in explaining what was happening. She even said if I wanted to drive straight to the hospital, they would make me comfortable to spend the night. Over the next couple of days, the way she took care of my brother was so impressive. I'm not sure I've met a nurse with so much compassion while dealing with such difficult circumstances. We moved my brother to a different floor before going into hospice, where he passed away. Although everyone was kind throughout, no one was Emily. Emily truly had a profound impact on our family during an incredibly difficult time. It's rare to encounter someone who combines both professional skill and deep compassion in the way she did. I'm truly thankful that my brother had such wonderful care and will never forget it.
