Emily Hamas provided highly skilled and compassionate care for our son over the last three days during his spinal fusion recovery. Our son is considered a medically complex child. We appreciated how Emily supported us as parents in playing a central role in his recovery by considering our input and ideas and supporting ways to carry them out within the PICU setting. She was a calm, patient, and reassuring presence for our child and us. He told us how much he liked Emily. He wanted to roll to manage pain frequently. Emily showed much care as she found the right way to position him each time, using many different pillows in just the right places. Toward the end of his stay, he spoke up and asked if he could use his home Bipap instead of the hospital machine. Emily spoke to the appropriate people to make that happen. This meant a lot to him and will give him the confidence to advocate for himself in the future. He has spent much time in the hospital for nearly 13 years, so we’ve experienced many different nurses. Emily is one of the best!
