Anything she is asked to do, she does it, and she has a very strong work ethic.
Emily came to the Intensive Care Unit as a new graduate nurse a year and a half ago. Her name fits her as she is humble, funny, and has excelled into a great ICU nurse. I have witnessed, as well as heard about, patient care stories from other staff in regards to her compassion, caring, and going above and beyond to care for patients. In the midst of the pandemic, in the ICU environment, care is often very heartbreaking, as well as challenging for patients, families, and staff. Recently, this candidate was caring for a covid patient that did not speak English. This nurse recognized the difficulty in communicating with the care team and meeting his needs appropriately. She took the time and was able to set up a "continuous" zoom platform between the patient, family members, and staff. This allowed for effective, immediate communication with the patient. Emily has served as a charge nurse, preceptor, and resource very early in her career. Prior to her onboarding as a new grad nurse, she was a NA and OR tech. Coming with valuable experience, she has many colleagues that respect her work ethic and commitment to the organization. She always has a smile and a sense of humor to help lighten the atmosphere in the midst of the acute, critically ill oncology environment. Anything she is asked to do, she does it, and she has a very strong work ethic. When she does charge, the staff comment on how helpful and resourceful she is in the role. She also works with students and new on boards to the unit, of which I get positive feedback on her support, knowledge, and care she provides to patients. She is also one of the nurses that participates in educational offerings outside of her work time. We do bi-monthly simulations, and she is one that frequently steps up to the plate to actively participate in the nursing role during simulations. There are other patient stories where she goes above and beyond. I appreciate her, so nominating her for the Daisy Award was seamless. She is deserving of recognition. We Thank You, Emily.
