DeKalb may not have a pediatric unit, but we could not have asked for a better nurse for our 4 year old boy. Many times, when it comes to caring for a toddler, it is a "gotta do what ya gotta do" attitude, which often results in having to hold him down. This made our child uncooperative and combative. Emily treated our son like his own individual person, and it made a world of difference in his attitude and behavior during care. She was able to talk to us about protocols and procedures but had a second conversation with our boy. She is the only nurse he has shown trust and cooperation with, and I sincerely believe it was due to her empathy and respect, regardless of his size or age. Emily also was very prompt and informative and always made our questions feel important. You can tell that this is more than a "job" to her.
