We could talk to her and felt comfortable asking her about any concerns and she answered these with compassion and care and confidence.
Our son had open heart surgery in LGI. Once he came down to the HDU unit on ward L51, Emma was our assigned nurse for that day. We recognised Emma from previous times on the ward, and this put us at ease instantly. Emma was not just looking after A, she was looking after another patient and helping other nurses out on the ward. She did all this and never delayed A's needs and she was so compassionate and down to earth. We could talk to her and felt comfortable asking her about any concerns and she answered these with compassion and care and confidence. As regards to A’s comfort and recovery, she would encourage him and to do things with a joke and a smile. This would help A feel relaxed and happy. She even put her input into ward rounds with the doctors about A as she understood his needs more as his recovery progressed. Emma went over and beyond, and she was always on the go so she could take the extra time to care for her patients and we were lucky to have her over 3 shifts on HDU. Throughout this time, she got to see A progress and praised him for how far he had come. When talking to Emma, she said she had over 20 years of experience in nursing, and she really loved her job and the patients she cared for. Not Just another day for her. Without Emma's care, A’s recovery would have been slower even when we stepped down to the normal ward. She would come and see how he was doing. I cannot recommend her enough for this award and after so many years of experience, this amazing nurse definitely needs rewarding.
