I recently entered the five north tower Medical unit from the atrium ICU unit where I spent the last approximately eight weeks receiving excellent care. In fact, I'm astounded at the level of care in all areas that I have been exposed to during my time here. However, I wanted to note the exceptional care and the professionalism I have experienced from one of the nurses I have been assigned a couple of times during my short time in this unit, and that is Emmy. I require a great deal of assistance due to the nature of my medical situation and I was quite uneasy about moving from the intensive care unit to a step down unit, but Emmy's professionalism, her compassion, her understanding what it's like to be in this bed as a patient feeling vulnerable and uncertain and often times fear has made the transition so much easier. I've only been in this unit for about a week but Emmy is approachable, she's efficient and her level of care is excellent. She embodies all the attributes of an extraordinary nurse and I'm grateful that I've had her as my nurse to make my transition and ability to move forward in my healing much easier than it could've been. While I have a long way to go, I know that my success will be attributable to those nurses and other medical professionals such as Emmy who go the extra mile with the patient. She truly is an extraordinary nurse.
