This is an amazing group of staff and our patient survey results reflect that the compassionate care I speak of is also felt by those treated in our unit.
While I may be slightly biased, words cannot begin to describe how thankful I am to work amongst some of the most unsung heroes at Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital. After spending over 20 years of my career working in Endoscopy, I can honestly say that out of all the locations throughout that timeframe that I’ve been employed with, I’ve never met a more compassionate, hard-working, team of staff who possess more ownership over our department then I’ve ever even witnessed in healthcare. While most departments are struggling with staffing across the nation, our department continues to expand on services, has low staff turnover, and isn’t above any task if it’s for the good of the department, patient, or hospital. If EVS is short-handed and our department has something that needs tending to, staff are quick to grab our unit-purchased mop and bucket and take care of it. If the lab is in need of help to get a potassium drawn on a patient having an endoscopic procedure, they grab the equipment, draw the specimen, and send it down to lab so our hungry patient doesn’t have to be delayed. Our unit hosts many themed potlucks, always has candy for staff and visitors, and even dog bones for the rounding therapy dog! The endoscopy staff recently had a busy Friday with just enough staff to cover the necessary areas. We had an emergent call-in and in turn, the staff didn’t “speak a word about working short”, say things like “I can’t wait for today to be over”, or any other comment adding to an already difficult day, but instead “I hope everything is ok with her”, “who still needs a break?”, and “what can I do to help you?”, were heard all over the Endo unit between staff. This is an amazing group of staff and our patient survey results reflect that the compassionate care I speak of is also felt by those treated in our unit. It is for the aforementioned and so many other reasons that this team is deserving of the DAISY Team Award. Thank you for your time and consideration of the Beaumont Grosse Pointe Endoscopy team for this esteemed award.
