Nurse Manager, 3 North
WellStar Douglas Hospital
Erica is always willing to go the extra mile for her team, she always jumps in to help and lend a hand to whoever needs it to make sure her team and the patients are taken care of.
Three North is a hard unit to work on, but when you are working alongside a nurse manager like Erica, it makes working here easier and more enjoyable. Due to the COVID pandemic things have been even crazier than usual and although Erica is our nurse manager, she is always at the front desk, ready to jump in to help no matter what the task is, without even being asked. She will throw on her PPE and help the nurses catch up on their meds, help pass food trays, answer the phone and call lights, help the patients go to the bathroom and she has even taken a team of patients!
One day in particular, has really stuck with me and really showed me how amazing and committed she is to our unit. On this particular day, I was charge and we were short nurses and only had one CCP. Each nurse had 6 patients with 3 primaries. Erica got to work early and as usual, jumped right in to help. An incontinent patient needed to be cleaned up and when I tell you it was a mess...IT WAS A MESS! The nurse that had the patient as a primary care was drowning and needed help getting her cleaned up, so Erica was the first person to jump in and say, she and I will do it. We gowned up and went in and got it taken care of.
This same day, a patient coded and then passed away, and again, Erica was right there jumping in to help. She along with another nurse and myself went in and got the body bathed and prepared to go to the funeral home, and she did this without even being asked. She did this because she cares, and she could see that her team needed her help. This is just who she is.
Erica is always willing to go the extra mile for her team, she always jumps in to help and lend a hand to whoever needs it to make sure her team and the patients are taken care of. She always has a positive attitude and is always encouraging us to keep going and that even though it's a bad day, that we will get through it. I do not think she receives enough recognition for all of her hard work, compassion, and amazing teamwork and I really want her to know that we on 3 North are so thankful for her and appreciate her more than she will ever know!
