Finally, she was able to convince the House Sup that she and the House Sup would clock out and go to pick her up, load her into Erica's car with a wheelchair in tow, and bring her to see her husband.
I had a patient in ICU who was in the process of passing away. His wife lived in an assisted living facility and was wheelchair-bound. She had no way of getting to the hospital. This was happening on night shift, where Erica was trying to arrange a ride for the patient through any means necessary. She fought hard with the ER Social Services Nurse and the House Sup to try and get my patient's wife here for hours. Finally, she was able to convince the House Sup that she and the House Sup would clock out and go to pick her up, load her into Erica's car with a wheelchair in tow, and bring her to see her husband. Seeing all the hoops that Erica had to jump through to make the wife of my patient happy was one of the most beautiful and heartwarming things I've seen in the ICU. Erica's dedication to giving the wife some time with the patient was amazing. I am so happy and proud to work with someone so special who has not forgotten about what humankind is really about. Thank you, Erica, for not giving up even when the deck was stacked against you.
