Erika accommodated my fears, helped me have confidence when I tried to stand, and never rushed me.
Erika never made me feel like a “bother.” Even when she brought me meds, she carefully checked them with me and didn’t act put out with my questions. She didn’t wait for a tech to change my wet linen. She took care of me like I was her family. I am a tough stick, and she started new IVs on me with great skill. When I asked questions, she either found the answer or engaged the hospitalist. Her forward planning and actions saved time and inspired confidence. She showed great patience with me when I was told I could have died from critically low potassium. I was upset and temporarily unable to use my arms and legs. She took ownership and calmed my fears of dying and not seeing my family. She even brought me chocolate milk to cheer me up.
Erika accommodated my fears, helped me have confidence when I tried to stand, and never rushed me. She cared for me like I was her own family. Her smile, her kindness, and thoughtfulness made a hard situation manageable. I measure the success of the hospital by how its staff represents it. Erika did the maximum plus effort. I went home because she followed my labs, kept me moving, and made sure we were focused on my plan of care. She is simply the best.

I couldn’t be with my daughter when she almost lost her life, but Erika was. I am an ER nurse, so I understand how life-threatening a 1.2 potassium is. My daughter couldn’t move her arms or legs, but it was Erika who held the phone for her to talk to me. It was Erika who calmed her down and Erika who helped her figure out how to swallow pills again. She encouraged her and checked on her frequently. I saw her change K’s bed immediately when the sheets were wet – not waiting for someone else to do it.
Erika is a team player. She makes Memorial look great! I know she is a preceptor. I teach and would value having her on my team. She is knowledgeable of the rules and gently reminded a student to wash her hands and encouraged critical thinking by asking open-ended questions. Her teaching style is awesome! If I couldn’t be there, Erika is my first choice to care for and support my family. I couldn’t have done better – and that is the highest compliment I could give another nurse.
