CPT Erin Adelmann is an APHON-certified nurse who works in the Pediatric Unit. There was a patient in another unit newly diagnosed with cancer who needed to start chemotherapy the next day, on the weekend. No APHON-certified RN was available in that unit to administer chemotherapy.

CPT Adelmann was contacted (on her day off) for assistance. Without hesitation, she volunteered to come in the next day to administer the medication to this patient. Remember, this patient is not admitted to her home unit. She displayed the Teamwork attribute. She is trusted with any pediatric patient in need of chemotherapy. She exhibits teamwork by going above and beyond to help not only patients in her unit but also pediatric patients in other units.

CPT Adelmann also assumed care of an infant over the weekend whose condition was deteriorating. She recognized right away that the child’s symptoms were not consistent with the working diagnosis and communicated her concerns about the change in status to the physician team immediately, leading to a diagnostic procedure that revealed a life-threatening condition. In addition to her outstanding nursing skills, CPT Adelmann is a consummate professional and always puts the best interests of the patients on the pediatric ward above all else. When CPT Adelmann is caring for patients on my service, I know they will receive the absolute best care possible.
