I have never been more touched by a nurse in my life.
I am a first-time mom who went to the doctor that morning and was told to go to the hospital as I was in labor. I have never been more scared and excited in my life. Erin came onto shift at 7 pm and helped me through the beginning part, held my hand as the Dr. broke my water, told me what to expect, and stood in front of me while I got my epidural. Where her magic came in was when I finally hit 10cm, and it was time to start pushing. She instantly became my labor coach, my advocate, and my biggest cheerleader. I had a traumatic birth; my little one had his cord around his neck and was blue and not breathing well. She instantly grabbed my hand and made me focus on her, and helped me calm down as best as I could. She stayed with me while my 3rd-degree incision/tear was stitched. She let me know how my guy was doing in the nursery. I delivered 43 minutes after her shift ended, yet she stayed with me, making sure I was ok physically and mentally. But the most above and beyond part she did was stay for me until almost noon to make sure I was ok and my baby was ok. I told her I couldn't thank her enough for caring for my boy, and she said, "no need to thank me. It's an honor to care for my momma and their babies." I have never been more touched by a nurse in my life. She made a horrific and traumatic event better in so many ways. I do not think mentally I would have handled the situation as well if it was not for her caring and compassionate care, along with her knowledge and calm demeanor in the middle of a crisis. I will never forget her nor be able to repay her for what she did for me.
