When Erynn was leaving to go home one night we passed in the hallway, she stopped to offer me her sympathy for what we were going through. It was such a simple thing that meant so much.
My mother was admitted and placed on a ventilator. After four days my family was faced with the difficult decision to cease life-supporting measures. For two of the four days, my mom and family were fortunate to have Erynn as our nurse. Over those two days, she compassionately cared for my mom and ensured her comfort. She treated her with dignity and proactively informed us of her status, medication changes, and the reasoning behind the decisions that were made. She supported visiting family, asking what we needed, and bringing extra chairs and coffee. When Erynn was leaving to go home one night we passed in the hallway, she stopped to offer me her sympathy for what we were going through. It was such a simple thing that meant so much. The compassion, care, and empathy she demonstrated to my mom and family stand out as an example for other nurses to follow and require recognition.
