Espie is a phenomenal ICU nurse. She is a knowledgeable role model, preceptor, and student nurse mentor. She has a positive attitude, and is always professional.
Espie has made a meaningful difference in the lives of all her patients. One in particular was a patient hospitalized for an extended length of time with respiratory issues and was given a tracheostomy. He was obese, had several co-morbidities, and was depressed.
Espie focused on his mental wellbeing, patient care, and education of his respiratory status. She consistently emphasized his daily improvements and goals while giving him praise and hope. She provided excellent patient care, even with the complexity due to his size, and repetitively encouraged his participation to improve ROM/muscle strengthening. She spoke to him about his respiratory status, easing his anxiety and patiently coached him through breathing techniques. He often excessively put on the call light, yet she responded with a smile and reassurance each time.
