Evan went above and beyond to assure his patient got to his car safely and was equipped to get home in the blizzard-like conditions.
Evan started his night shift to an active blizzard outside, and a full patient load. One of his patients who had been in the ED for 3 hours after a thorough workup was up for discharge and eager to get home. The patient was elderly, lived alone, and usually ambulates with a walker. Evan noticed these challenges and the blizzard conditions for the patient in discharge.
He personally wheeled the patient to his vehicle in the ED parking lot, assisted him into his vehicle, and brushed off his car covered in snow with his own bare arms. Evan went above and beyond to assure his patient got to his car safely and was equipped to get home in the blizzard-like conditions. Also, not wanting to leave his other patients alone as he was the only RN on that team, he coordinated with the ED’s clinical coordinator to care for his patients while he performed his above and beyond, kind duty to the patient!
