Eve is an exceptional nurse; she goes above and beyond to make sure her patients and their families are comfortable. She takes her time while giving both preoperative and discharge instructions to ensure that both the patient and their family members understand and can advocate for themselves.

In addition to her great bedside care, Eve is a team player through and through. She always helps others care for their patients. Eve is a true gem and an amazing addition to our nursing team at the VCU Short Pump Surgery Center! This example shows Eve's attention to detail and thorough patient care. Eve had a patient assigned to her in the Pre-Op area. During her Pre-Op assessment, she asked the patient if he had diabetes, as she noticed that he had lancets ordered under his medication administration record. The patient reported that he didn't check his blood sugar at home but that he was told he was "diabetic" any time he visited the doctor. This had Eve ask more questions and obtain a blood sugar. The result was in the 300s. Since high glucose can delay wound healing, this patient’s surgery was canceled. Eve advocated for this patient to be seen by their primary care provider so that they could receive education. Eve's patients always rave about the excellent care she provides, and she should be formally recognized for her excellence.
