This appreciation is for two incredible corpsman and their outstanding performance during a patient’s syncopal episode. Their role during this moment was critical in supporting the healthcare team. After HM3 Dyer and HN Jenks helped a patient with a shower, the patient decompensated and became unresponsive. HM3 Dyer and HN Jenks activated the emergency team, helped the patient to bed, and started obtaining vital signs. They retrieved the necessary equipment and ensured the area around the patient was free of obstacles. When the nurses arrived at the scene, they relayed information, assisted with positioning the patient, and performed tasks as directed. They kept a calm demeanor, which helped others focus and reduce chaos. After the event, they cleaned the area, restocked supplies, and offered emotional support to the patient as appropriate. HM3 Dyer and HN Jenks did precisely what they had been trained to do: save lives. They followed instructions and knew their scope of practice.
