This surgery was a big decision and I could tell it was weighing on him and his wife. He stated that Faith brings him peace and comfort by just speaking with him and being present.
I round on patients every day. I met a gentleman and his wife who had a rocky start with their transfer to ASJMC. When I first met them I got involved to try to correct some of the miscommunication that had occurred on the provider side and I made a plan with the patient and wife to keep closely connected. They had my cell (but never used it) and I rounded on them each day.

Four days after I first met them, the patient told me that he and his wife had made the tough decision to go back for another surgery the following day. The patient stated that all of the nurses on 11w had been good but one nurse stood out in particular. Her name is Faith. When the patient first met Faith, she noticed that he was wearing a Buffalo hat. She asked if he was a fan. They connected on the fact that not only was he a fan, but they were both from New York. The patient also mentioned that he was in the ministry and that he and Faith had connected in their spirituality and beliefs.

The patient asked me if I could find out when Faith worked again and if I could have her visit him. This surgery was a big decision and I could tell it was weighing on him and his wife. He stated that Faith brings him peace and comfort by just speaking with him and being present.  I assured the patient that I would connect with her and make her aware of the request.

I followed up with the nurse manager and let her know that Faith would not be back for a couple of days but that the patient had requested she visit no matter what nursing department he would end up in. The nurse manager assured me she would make Faith aware.

Late the same evening, I received a text message from the nurse manager. Faith had apparently come in on her day off and paid a visit to the patient, spending time with him and his wife to make sure that he was in the right frame of mind to have this surgery.

This is truly going above and beyond and is living the mission of this ministry. Faith deserves recognition by honoring her with the DAISY award, as this is exactly what this award is all about.
