As much as I cried the entire time visiting my sister and was unsure what to expect, Faith always took the time to stay with my family and talk to us, making sure we understood what was going on.
My sister is a 32-year-old female who arrived at RIH on Wednesday around 7pm. She had undergone a routine hip replacement at another facility that turned into a nightmare. She ended up suffering a significant amount of blood loss and lost pulses in the left leg. She needed multiple units of blood at SCH and was ultimately transferred to RIH for higher level of care. At RIH, she underwent multiple procedures and received numerous amounts of blood overnight on her first night there and was placed in a medically induced coma. In the end the team at RIH had to make the difficult decision to amputate her leg in order to save her life. I work as an ER nurse, and seeing my sister with multiple medications running, intubated on a vent, and unsure if she was going to live made me struggle with processing everything going on.

However, her nurse Faith had given me, as well as my family and my sister’s husband, the reassurance of every possible outcome and made us feel as though everything was going to be all right in the end. I’ve never personally witnessed firsthand how truly amazing nurses are on the outside and the depths they go through to make patients and families comfortable and happy. As much as I cried the entire time visiting my sister and was unsure what to expect, Faith always took the time to stay with my family and talk to us, making sure we understood what was going on.

She never once made us feel like we were a bother and never left any question we had unanswered. I am so thankful that my sister had a nurse like Faith, and I hope to see her receive this award. I was not able to visit her on nightshift, but I know her first night there involved multiple units of blood and every measure possible to keep her alive. Both Faith and my sister's night shift nurse are forever in our hearts, and we could not thank them more for everything they did for my sister. Simple gestures such as washing and braiding my sister’s hair while she was intubated meant the world to not only me but I know my sister. They truly are angels and deserve every award the nursing profession could offer.
