I am a patient recently diagnosed with a 12.6cm mass on my ovary, protruding into my colon. Felicia was with me for what I always remember as the "worst day of my life." I needed a colonoscopy and couldn't tolerate the prep. At first, she was my cheerleader, then my advocator to the doctors. I got an NG tube. Felicia had great nursing knowledge and skills before and after the procedure.
It was very traumatic for me. However, she was able to prep me through the NG tube.
She kept my husband in good spirits, as well as being kept informed. When she came in to say we could take the tube out, it was the best news I had received so far. I am grateful she did not keep the tube in for longer than necessary. Removal of the tube was a breeze and I felt loads better. Felicia was able to prep me before the procedure and demonstrated excellent nursing skills once more. She was gentle, kind, efficient.
Needless to say, I don't think I could have gotten through this without her. She kept checking on my pain and enabled me to be brave and focus on what I needed to do.
Her co-worker told me that this was "classic" Felicia. Another co-worker stayed at Mercy because she works here and had helped him so much during his first few years. He felt loyal to her. Having met her, I could not disagree.
Note: This is Felicia's 2nd DAISY Award!
