Fonda not only is a fellow nurse with whom I have worked side-by-side on the unit but she is also now our manager. I would like to take the time out and state everything that she does to my knowledge, and I know I will leave a lot missing because I know she does so much more. As a manager, she ensures that staffing needs are met and sometimes that means that on her day off if the need is there, Fonda will come to work to help out. Now I don't know any other managers in the hospital that will do this. She feels so compassionately about her co-workers that she makes her own sacrifices and does what is needed for them. Fonda also ensures that we have the appropriate supplies so that each of us working on the floor can effectively care for our patients. Fonda has that open-door policy where you are made to feel welcomed and express yourself. Fonda fills out and gives kudo cards and notes to the staff. She gives each of us a little something special on our birthday. She is always around to lend a hand when the unit is busy and busting loose. I know some may say that as a unit manager it is "their job" to do the above-mentioned things and that may be so, but I feel that she should be recognized as to why we feel that she is so special not only to myself but to everyone on the unit.
