Gabby made me feel comfortable from day 1.
My daughter has spent 90% of her life in the hospital setting. She was a premie twin girl from 144 days in the NICU in Georgia to being discharged and us moving to Texas, and not even a week later, and back in the hospital for respiratory distress. My daughter L spent one week in a children's hospital in El Paso, TX, before being airlifted to Corpus Christi, TX, for heart surgery. We have been here a few days, and this nurse has been our night nurse since we arrived; she has been one of the sweetest, kindest, and most reliable, attentive nurses in my daughter's care, and with 144 days in the NICU.
I had my fair share of nurses and knew which ones were good nurses who loved what they did and which ones were just working for the 12 hours. Gabby made me feel comfortable from day 1. When we got flown in that night I was so exhausted from a long day and during the night she let me sleep through the night, she asked me if I needed anything, how my daughter ate, what she likes, made conversation with me. She was great at her job while also being so compassionate. She told me she let me sleep because she knew I was tired. That was very sweet, and it was much needed as I caught up on resting a twin mom. It's hard to find those hours to sleep, so when you do, it's great and refreshing.
What really caught my eye was how my daughter reacted to her. My daughter is so shy and gets scared of strangers, but from the moment Gabby talked to her for her care, my daughter was smiling, giggling, and talking to her! It's true that babies know when you are a good person, and I was so happy to see my 5-month-old baby comfortable with her. The whole night, my baby was happy and smiling to her. It was sweet, and not once did she get scared of her. Gabby is the true definition of a wonderful, caring nurse. She is one of many I will always remember and tell my daughter about when she is old enough to understand.
