Gabby taught me how to talk to family members during a difficult time in their life of losing a loved one.
When I moved to CICU everyone on the unit was very welcoming and excited to have a new student in the unit. Every nurse was amazing and wanted to teach me new things. My favorite nurse is a new nurse herself that graduated in May and I never would have guessed that because of how much knowledge she was passing to me. She walked me through, step-by-step, everything she was doing and why. She taught me so much about medications/drips and walked into the patient's room with me to explain the different rates and the reasoning behind everything.
She taught me how to talk to family members during a difficult time in their life of losing a loved one. She was kind, generous, and very informational. To me, it seemed like she knew everything even though she has only been a nurse for a couple of months. She inspires me to not just become a great nurse but to be a better person and to step back and think about what is the most important thing the patient needs. I am inspired to be as knowledgeable as her when I become a nurse and be just as great as a teacher to a new nursing student like she was for me. This will impact my career because I learned how to communicate with family members and what to talk to them about and to reassure them that they are not alone.
