Gail is an exceptional nurse. Her compassion and caring spirit with my family and mother deserve recognition. Mom has AML, and with the four years we have spent at the hospital with multiple admissions, Gail stands out among a crowd of wonderful staff RNs.
Gail was always accommodating and responsive to my mom and family needs. Mom was in tremendous pain and did not want to get up or eat. She was very frail. Gail was always there trying to get her to turn or eat in a calm and caring way. My father had a stroke at the same time that my mom was in the hospital. The stress level was (is) incredible on the family. Gail always asked about Dad and if we needed anything from the staff to support us. She would call my cell phone and give updates when we were worried (and we frequently were). Gail did not change her treatment or outlook of Mom once she was made DNR. She knew her fight was not over and to get her home we needed the team all on the same page.
We truly appreciate all the time and effort Gail put in to support Mom, Dad, and our family. While those all seem like routine activities and interventions, it is all in the delivery. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. It's not what you do, it's how you do it. Gail is a wonderful patient and family advocate who exemplifies excellence and professionalism.
