Gail was our son's nurse when he was born in December. We are his adopted parents and were fortunate enough to be there for his birth and spend the first 48 hours with him in the hospital. Gail brought him to us moments after he was born and performed the routine newborn care.
From the moment she first started caring for our son and our family, we were thoroughly impressed with her ability to be direct, candid and extremely caring. As first-time parents, we were naturally anxious, excited and nervous to do everything right. Gail's ability to help us navigate those first few days gave us the confidence to take our son home and know that we were prepared. Her care for our son was top notch and her care for my husband and I went above and beyond her required responsibilities. An attribute of Gail that made us feel so comfortable was her ability to make us feel at ease, through her humor and her ability to impart her wisdom and advice without making anyone feel they were doing something wrong.
Part of our agreement with the birth mother consisted of a visit with her and our son before she signed the surrender papers; she wanted to see us once with him to know she made the right decision. Gail took us to her room and gave us privacy to connect. After about 15 or 20 minutes, Gail politely came back in and took us back to our room. Her ability to navigate a very sensitive and emotional situation with such professionalism and emotional intelligence was more than we could ever have hoped for.
Now that we've had our son at home for a little over two weeks, we look back on those first days of our lives as a family with such fondness. We have remarked to our friends and family how impressed we were with our care and the service at Cedar Park Medical Center but especially from Gail Knight. We are still quoting her, oftentimes saying, "Gail said..." to remind us of the confidence she instilled in us as new parents. We cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff but especially about Gail and the amazing service she provided. Gail is a true DAISY Nurse.
