Despite the massive influx of patients into the ER, Gayle cares to go the extra mile for our patients.
Amidst the madness and chaos of the last 2 weeks, there are moments like yesterday when what you do seriously impacts a single patient. We had a young guy who came in for hypoxia from Covid. His chart indicated he was ambulated and found to not be hypoxic, but he says that did not really happen. He was hypoxic 82-85% at home. His wife, a nurse, had called Fidelity, and it was suggested they go to the ER. The team got to work discussing and investigating options. Gayle contacted ICM. Gayle also contacted Fidelity Home Health and discovered a “workaround.” All arrangements were made. Gayle did not want the patient to be discharged until the oxygen was delivered to him in the ED. It took a few hours, but the outcome was achieved, and the patient was safely dismissed with oxygen to begin grieving for his mother, who had passed away from Covid complications. I am so proud to work with Gayle. Despite the massive influx of patients into the ER, Gayle cares to go the extra mile for our patients. This is my Christmas miracle. That is why I am in this field….so we can make a small difference when life is so horrible; because besides spreading love, kindness, and compassion, what more is there? Gayle deserves our honor and respect for her dedication and kindness.
