Gemma was recognized by a family member who was grateful for the personalized, genuine and special care she gave to her mother during her long stay at Saint Agnes.
Gemma's patient had already undergone one round of chemotherapy so the healing process had only just begun. Over the course of several weeks, Gemma became more than a caregiver to her patient and her family members, she became a blessing.
"As our stay grew, so did our admiration for her. She got to know my mom and her habits and knew when something was different."
Gemma took the time to conveniently coordinate checking the patient's vitals based on her remembrance of the patient's sleep times and habits and even became familiar with her demeanor.
"It was Gemma who noticed a change in my mom's stamina and realized it was due to a new medication causing drowsiness."
Gemma fostered a meaningful relationship out of true care for her patient, one that could only come from true kindness.
