While my mother had pretty much given up hope, Gena encouraged her to not give up hope of being treated.
The entire staff at Memorial Hospital needs to be recognized but none more than Gena! She was so instrumental in my mother’s care, when the doctors wanted to send my mom home she said that she was her patient and that she was not ready to be discharged. She listened to everything my mother told her and used it to treat her. Gena stayed over and helped make sure that she received the absolute best care possible!!! Memorial Hospital should be extremely proud that they have employees like Gena who take such great pride in their care for patients! Thank you, Gena, and thank you to the Emergency Room staff as well as the entire staff of the 7th floor, the respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, and doctors!

Gena Bagwell was the nurse in charge of my mother's care while at Memorial Hospital. When the doctors wanted to send my Mom home because they felt as though nothing else could be done to change her prognosis, Gena stepped in and told the doctors that she had spoken with her in-depth about her symptoms and requested that more tests be conducted to help diagnose her. While my mother had pretty much given up hope, Gena encouraged her to not give up hope of being treated. Gena went out of her way to help her by not only listening to her about previous visits to the hospital, she requested that the doctors perform more tests and use more aggressive treatments! She literally saved my mother’s life!!!! Thank you, Gena and the rest of the nursing staff on the 7th floor.
